Devastate Us
Today I am getting sick. Sore lymph nodes, fever. My family is finally all home today and I have chills and am getting a cold. I hear them playing outside in the sunshine. I hear the birds. My husband is burning out some crab grass so his grass seed can grow. He loves to care for the lawn.
I fixed homemade waffles for everyone and got some laundry caught up today.
I have a song stuck in my head that is going over and over like a broken record. I think I'll have to look it up and listen to it. Sometimes that will stop the broken record effect.
It's a Watermark off their last album (not this current one, their farewell album, but the one before that.) The album version is okay, but in person, the anointing on it just fell. I literally laid on the flour with my head facedown on the floor of a multipurpose gym/sanctuary. That's the nice thing about being at concerts away from home...you can just respond without having to explain to anyone directly or indirectly where you are. You can just "be". Just love him in an unusual way with no explanation to anyone at all. Christy Nickols, the female half of Watermark, is also a Passion singer. I love her voice...her path and mine coincided, and I will miss her ministry greatly in coming years. Her voice mellows me and inspires me somehow.
Captivate Us is the name of the song--here's the chorus, all I remember:
Captivate Us, Lord Jesus, set our hearts on you
Devastate us, with you presence, flowing down
Rushing river, draw us nearer
Holy fountain, consume us, with you
Captivate us, Lord Jesus. With you
Bridge:
For your yoke is easy
Your burden is light
Your full of wisdom, power, and might,
And every eye...
will see you
---
I love the phrase, "devastate with your presence falling down"
I've never prayed to be devastated by God. He can surely do it, I'm just afraid to pray it, having experienced it. Hearing her sing it just humbled me...that I want God, but not to the point that he will "disturb" me, "devastate" me. I just want him to encourage and refresh me, strengthen and empower me. Is it possible that that only comes in a lasting way when we allow him or except his "devastating us" on occassion?
Your thoughts on a God who devastes...
